Prayer Request for Selah

My hands have been full since my last post, literally:)  So much has happened, so much I want to share with you...many firsts with little Selah, a Bryant family reunion in Leavenworth, Wa, 10 adorable golden retriever puppies to manage, advertise and sell, a church kick off, and so on.  Like you, life has a way of filling up with crazy, busy, beautiful moments.  I hope to post some pictures of the last few weeks in the next few days.   Recently, I have been reminded just how amazing our God is, especially in how he designed our bodies to work!   

However, this post is to ask for PRAYER for our little Selah Mercy!  

Selah has been diagnosed with laryngomalacia.  This happens when the soft, immature cartilage of the upper larynx collapses obstructing breathing, commonly causing inspiratory stridor.  (Stridor is the high pitched wheezing noise that is often associated with croup.)  It can cause feeding problems, apnea, aspiration, the need to be on oxygen, etc. but often just needs to be monitored.  The treatment...watch them until they grow out of it by the age of 2.  If it is really severe, surgery is needed.  

So far, Selah seems to have a mild to moderate case (that's my guess).  She has stridor occasionally (at least every hour, somtimes lots in an hour) and almost always when she is nursing and throughout the night.  In the last week, she has had some trouble nursing when she just can't breathe well but I am learning a few tricks that seem to be helping.  Throughout the day, many times she seems to have almost normal breathing.

Ways that you can pray...Quick strengthening of the larynx, to maintain weight gain and nursing, and for me to correctly access when she might need medical attention if her breathing becomes too labored.  Of yeah, sleep for me too!  She sleeps most of the night on my chest because she needs to sleep on her tummy (sleeping on their back makes it worse) and that way I can listen to her breathing and watch for apnea.  

Besides all of this, little Selah is just perfect in every way!  She may end up being quite spoiled though as getting into a good cry can make her breathing worse.  We stand on the Word of God as stated in Psalm 139:13-16...God knew little Selah even in the womb!  He created her inmost being, her frame was not hidden from him, His eyes saw her unformed body..for she (like all of us) was fearfully and wonderfully made!  God is so good and I am humbled to be part of bringing little Selah Mercy into this world!
